Music Mentors

Music Mentors provides free one-on-one music lessons, ensembles, and theory classes for anyone in the Miami Valley Community. Lessons, classes, and rehearsals are held on Central State’s main campus in Wilberforce, Ohio in the Paul Robeson Center for Music and the Performing Arts every Saturday. Lesson times are at the discretion of each teacher. They run according to the academic year, beginning Saturday, August 20th, 2011 and ending April 28th, 2012. Lessons are offered in piano, bass, guitar, voice, percussion, clarinet, and brass. Additional classes in music theory, percussion ensemble, and group piano are also available. We accept applications on a rolling basis.

Each student will learn:
- fundamental music theory
- how to read music
- repertoire according to each student’s skill level

EACH STUDENT MUST HAVE AN INSTRUMENT AT HOME TO PRACTICE ON.

The program director of Music Mentors is Dr. Jennifer Cruz, Associate Professor of Piano and Music Theory at Central State University. She received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees from Indiana University-South Bend, Manhattan School of Music, and University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, respectively.
